Kathleen "Kate" Alvarez, 64, of Syracuse, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Gladys (Poole) Killoran. Kate was a graduate of Onondaga Valley High School and was a communicantof St. James Church. She enjoyed gardening, summers at Lake Ontario, winters in St. Petersburg, FL, and her family, extended family and neighbors. She was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Killoran in 1968, and by a cousin, Stephen Poole, in 1989. Kate is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gerald T. Alvarez; one daughter, Kristina (Philip) Ashley of Syracuse; one son, James S. (Michelle) Alvarez of Baldwinsville; one brother, Kevin Killoran; and four grandchildren, Samantha and Cory Ashley and Jessica and Braedon Alvarez. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Monday at St. James Church, 4845 S. Salina Street, Syracuse. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, CNY Chapter, Learbury Centre, 401 North Salina Street, Syracuse, NY 13203-1770.
