Miss Barone, who lived in Kennett Square, was on her way home from Unionville High School's prom, which was held at the University of Delaware in Newark DE.
She was a passenger in a car driven by Thomas J. Stango, 16, of Chadds Ford PA, who made a wrong turn onto Kirkwood Highway, east of Newark, and whose car was struck broadside by a car driven by Mark Wright, 17, of Wilmington DE.
Both Stango and Wright were treated and released from Christiana Hospital.
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Miss Barone was a junior at Unionville High School, having transferred this year from Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was a member of the school's chorus and drama club and was a chorus member of the school's recent production of Mame. She also played the French horn and saxophone in the band and was a member of Students Against Driving Drunk. "She was a very caring person, the kind of youngster that others could talk over their problems with," said school principal John Maher, who noted that Miss Barone was an above-average student.
Miss Barone was survived by her parents, Michael P. and Marianne Jazina Barone; a brother, Michael C. Barone; a sister, Cheryl Ann Barone; her paternal grandparents, Michael and Ann Barone; and her maternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Jazina.
