Lena graduated Chautauqua Central School in 1939. During the war, she worked at Art Metal and later for the Ulrich Planfiling Corp. for seven years before coming to Mayville in 1950.
She was a homemaker, enjoyed crafts, crocheting, and sewing. She also altered clothes for the California Accessories in Chautauqua Institution and assisted friends with sewing.
She was a 70-year member and past master of Stedman Grange and was also a 50-year member of Pomona Grange (5th degree). She had been a member of the New York State Federation of Home Bureau, the Northern Belles Chapter, and a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church.
Lena worked several years as an election inspector for the Town of Chautauqua.
She loved her family of four sons and their families; along with her 13 grandchildren. She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren. In addition, to her companion cat, Tiger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Weatherlow, whom she married on July 13, 1950 and who died on May 25, 1996; and a grandson, Joshua McChesney on December 6, 2008.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8 from 10-11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate.
Private burial to follow in the Magnolia Cemetery.
