HINSDALE—Effie A. Hurd of
4069 Gile Hollow Rd. died Monday (Oct. 1, 2001) in Olean General Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Caneadea, she wa s a daughter of
Frank and Mary Poole Silsby. In
1944, she married Elliott E. Hurd,
who predeceased her Jan. 28,
1969.
Mrs. Hurd wa s employed by
Olean Tiles Co., th e Castle
Restaraunt, and St. John's
Church.
She enjoyed crafts, flowers,
gardening, fishing, andanimals.
Most of all, Mrs. Hurd loved taking care of her family.
Surviving are a son, Randy E.
Hurd of Franklinville; four
daughters, Sandra M. Bellew of
Memphis, Tenn., Barbara J.
(Arthur) Foster of Cuba, Elaine
E. Zuba of Portville and Cyndi D.
Hurd of Cuba; 19 grandchildren;
35 great-grandchildren ; a
brother, Charles Silsby of New
York; a sister, her twin, Iva Hurd
of Portville; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by a
son, John E. Elliott, in 1960; two
daughters, Sharon Hurd in 1959,
and infant daughter Janet Hurd;
six brothers, Melvin Silsby, Richard Silsby, Kenneth Silsby,
Edward Silsby, Clifford Silsby
and Alfred Silsby; and four sisters, Mildred Patterson, Leona
Silsby, Dorothy Hands and Ruth
Wilcox.
Friends were received from 7
to 9 pm Wednesday at the LetroMclntosh-Spink Funeral Home
Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean,
where funeral and committal
services were held Thursday
(Oct. 4, 2001) at 1 pm. The Rev.
David W. Herne officiated. Burial
w a s in Fluvanna Cemetery,
Ellicott.
Memorials may be madę to

WNY, 219 Bryant St., Buffalo,
NY 14201.
