Henry Edwin Hart was my great grandfather. Sadly, TB would take his life when my grandmother was only 12 years old. He was born in Sullivan County, Indiana and married Miss Nanna Robbins on July 17, 1907 at a double wedding along with Nanna's sister, Margaret Frances Robbins. The wedding took place at the home of Margaret's mother which was Nanna's stepmother, Anna Rebecca (Freeland) Robbins in Colorado Springs. After Mr. Hart married Nanna they moved to Riverside, California and purchased a beautiful two-story home on Vine Street. Together they had two daughters, but neither would live to see them both grown and married. Mr. Hart was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Their two daughters were Evelyn (my grandma) and her younger sister, Fern. In 1916, Mr. Hart was diagnosed with TB and his doctor recommended that he move his family to a better climate that would ease the symptoms of Tuberculois and possibly even let him live longer. The family moved back to Colorado Springs and as Mr. Hart's health deteriorated his wife had to place him in Nob Hill Sanitarium where he would live until his death. He was buried in a section of the Evergreen Cemetery along with other members of the fraternal organization Independent Order of Odd Fellows. His headstone has the letters FLT with a circle around each letter and they are each linked together and it is the symbol for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; those three letters stand for friendship, love, and truth. Mr. Hart was a loving, trusting, friendly, and honorable man who truly adored his family. I have many love letters written by Henry and Nanna while they were courting in 1906 and 1907; at that time he was working in Riverside and she was working in Colorado Springs.
