Sarah Jane Stevens was the daughter of William Stevens and his wife, Caroline. She was the second wife of William Edward Murphy, Jr. They were married December 16, 1909.

Princess Anne County, Virginia marriage records show the following -
"Married December 16, 1909 - William E. Murphy, widowed, and Sarah Jane Stevens, single - William E. Murphy, age 45, born in and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, occupation Farmer, son of William E. Murphy and his wife, S.F. - Sarah Jane Stevens, age 44, born in and residing in Princess Anne County, Virginia, daughter of William Stevens and his wife, Caroline"
