From the August 1, 1973 edition of the Charleston News and Courier, Page 11-A:

Earl J. Tart, Sr. of Charleston Heights, died Monday in a Columbia hospital.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Stuhr's North Area Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Tart was born June 2, 1893 in Latta, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Tart. He was a member of Charleston Heights Baptist Church and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Surviving are: two sons, Earl J. Tart, Jr. of Charleston Heights and James L. Tart of North Charleston; a daughter, Mrs. Marie T. Ridgle of Charleston Heights; a half-sister, Mrs. Monroe Duncan of Red Springs, N.C., and six grandchildren.
