El Paso native, Louis N. Machuca, died September 3, 2007, after a long and debilitating illness. He was born in Presidio, Texas on April 8, 1932, though he resided in El Paso most of his life. His parents were Juan de la Cruz and Esther Nieto Machuca, also long-time residents of El Paso and now deceased. Louis served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer, USS Dixie, and traveled throughout the Pacific during his service years. He was a graduate of Texas Western College and retired as District Executive with Yucca Council 573. His work and joy was developing and preparing youth for greater service to our country. In retirement, he was the family genealogist and historian; having done extensive research on the history of the Big Bend and Northern Chihuahua. Survivors include numerous siblings, cousins and lifetime friends. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 8:00 AM at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 1118 N. Mesa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Inurnment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.
