Barbara Dempsey Allen Pomeranz, June 24, 1932 to August 28, 2007. Barbara, Mom, and Nana as she was affectionately known, passed from this life into eternity on Tuesday, August 28, in El Paso, Texas where she had resided for the past 7 years. She was born in Miami, Florida where she was raised along with her two brothers, Frank and Chuck Dempsey by Charles and Francis Dempsey. She was an athlete and performed at Rooney Plaza in Miami Beach as an aqua ballet swimmer. She married young, raised four children, took care of her mother-in-law and worked full-time most of her adult life. She sacrificed much for her family and always put their needs before her own. She held many positions over the years as an automobile title clerk and was a home mortgage broker with Principal Financial Group where she retired in 1991. She lived in Florida and Arizona before moving to El Paso permanently in 2000. She joined First Baptist Church El Paso, May 30, 1999 and became active in the Omega Bible Class, the Alma Hunt Group and Women on Mission. She was an avid reader and loved to travel when her health permitted. She taught all of us who knew her the true meaning of perseverance, hard work, loyalty, selflessness, patience, dedication to family and was kind hearted toward all. She was friendly, outgoing and in her later years, had a quiet, spirit, filled with unconditional love for everyone she met. Her most treasured possessions were her family. She longed to be with her sweetheart, Mickey Pomeranz, who preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by her older, brother Frank Dempsey (Colleen) of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, her four children: Donna Curlin (Jackson), Dianne Allen (Ruben), Tom Allen (Roberta) and Jim Allen (Denise) and three grandchildren: Randon Curlin (Kara), Colleen Curlin, Danny Guzman, Sarah Allen, and a great-grand daughter Taylor Curlin. Her El Paso Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00A.M., in the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church, 805 Montana, with senior pastor; Dr. Richard D. Rush officiating. A reception in the Parlor will follow the service. Her inurnment service will take place in Boynton Beach, Florida over the Thanksgiving Weekend. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to Youth Opportunity Camp, supported through First Baptist Church, or to a favorite charity. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler El Paso, TX 79912.
