HARTFORD CITY, Ind.--Elmer S. Sluder, 72, 506 W. Cleveland St., died Saturday in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. He was born in Taylor County, Ky., and moved to Blackford County in 1950 from Campbellsville, Ky.
He retired in 1981 after 31 years of service from St. Joe Container Co. He was a member of American Legion Post 159 and First Church of God.
Mr. Sluder was a former member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. and was a veteran of the Army.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Louise Sherrill Sluder; five sons, Maurice (Maury) Sluder, Montpelier, Gerald (Lester) Sluder, Plymouth, Jerry Coloniger, Jeffersonville, Jimmie E. Sluder, Marion, and David D. Sluder, Hartford City; three daughters, Linda Houseman and Doris Wilson, both of Hartford City, and Sue Watson, Louisville, Ky.; six brothers, Winfrey and Wayne Sluder, both of Hartford City, Willie, Doyle and Ray Sluder, all of Campbellsville, and Coy Sluder, Columbus; three sisters, Imogene Compton and Edith Ferguson, both of Columbus, and Audrey Eastridge, Campbellsville; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Keplinger Funeral Home, with Rev. Ellis Smith and Rev. Elmer Sollenberger officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie. American Legion Post 159 will conduct military graveside rites. Calling at the funeral home is 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
