Memorial services will be held Thursday for David Dixon, the 19-year-old son of legendary blues singer-songwriter Willie James Dixon, who drowned Monday at Manhattan Beach.
Born in Chicago, Dixon moved to Glendale with his father and mother, Marie, about four years ago and attended Hoover High School where he lettered in football and track his senior year, said his sister, Shirley Dixon of Chicago.
After graduating in 1986, Dixon attended Glendale Community College where he studied electronics and played football, she said. He was engaged to Tonja Billings of Glendale.
Dixon had a gentle nature and liked playing the role of peacemaker, she said. "He wanted everyone to get along in life."
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Dixon Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church in Glendale.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place in Chicago.
Dixon is survived by his parents [Willie and Marie (Booker) Dixon] and nine brothers and sisters.
