OBITUARY

George V. Banta, 98, Rt. 6, Logansport, died at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 4, 1894, in Cass County, he was the son of Caleb and Flora Jordan Banta. On Oct. 14, 1922, in Logansport, he was married to Cleo Terrell, who died Feb. 17, 1975. Mr. Banta was a retired farmer and fruit orchard operator. He had served on the Cass County Council more than 20 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 60, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, Elks Lodge 66, Eagles Lodge 323, and Logansport Rotary Club. He was past vice president of the Indiana Chapter of the Sons or the American Revolution, and past chef-de-gare of Voiture 729 40&8. An avid bowler on the local, state and national level, Mr. Banta had served as the Elks Lodge representative to the National Bowling Association A 1914 graduate of Logansport High School, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1918, and was a member of the University of Wisconsin "W" Club and Alpha Gamma Rho National Fraternity-University of Wisconsin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in France during World War I. Surviving are three daughters, Shirley E. Hand and Georgia B. Henry, both of Rt. 6, Logansport, and Kathryn Myers, Lewiston, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister and one grandson preceded in death.Graveside services, with military rites, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Fnday at Pisgah Cemetery, with Pastor Ronald Lewellen officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in McCloskey-Hamilton-Gundrum Funeral Home, where an Elks service will be conducted at 6:15 p.m. and an Eagles service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pisgah Church.Wednesday, April 28, 1993 - Logansport Pharos-Tribune
