William Lincoln, son of Simeon and Sarah Kring Swartz, was born in Findley, OH, March 6, 1862. He died May 1, 1937 at the age of 75 years, one month and twenty-five day.s
In 1874, when he was 12 years of age, he moved to Rice County, KS. In 1889, he entered the ministry, where he served fro more than 30 years as a member of the Southwest Kansas and Oklahoma conferences of the Methodist Episcopal church.
On May 15, 1890, he was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Bitner at Great Bend, KS. To this union were born 13 children, three of whom preceded him in death.
In 1898, he moved with his family to Major County, OK, where they resided until 1923, at which time they moved to Larned, KS. Since 1925 the family has lived in Winfield.
All during his lifetime, he worked for the coming of the Kingdom of God in the land of the living. His greatest ambition was to see a great revival of Christianity among all people.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. W.L. Swartz of WInfield, KS, ten children, 32 grandchildren, one great grandchild, four brothers and one sister.
The children are: Paul S. of Bakersfield, CA; Mrs. P.A. Miller and Mrs. Ray Bergdall of Winfield, KS; Mrs. I.L. Neuenswander, Welda, KS; Mrs. O.G. Bergdall, Meno, OK; William B. of Oxnard, CA; Joseph B. of Strawn, KS; George G. of Elkhart, KS; Daniel V. of Burden, KS; and Nancy Jane Swartz of Winfield, KS.
The four brothers he leaves are: C.W. Swartz and D.B. Swartz, both of Portland, OR; O.M. Swartz of Oklahoma City, OK; and Dr. D.L.R. Swartz of Enid, OK; and one sister, Mrs. George Hauser of Los Angeles, CA. Another sister, Mrs. Mary Jefferies, preceded him in death.
Interment was in the family plot of the Concord Cemetery south of Meno, OK.
