Vernon Leo Dahl
October 18, 1931 ~ September 16, 2020

Vernon L. Dahl, 88, of South Sioux City, NE passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at a local hospital.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Vernon was born October 18, 1931 in Whiting, IA, the son of Ed and Gertrude (DeLashmutt) Dahl. He graduated from Whiting High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was sent overseas during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Vernon married JoAnn Saunders in 1951. To this union, four children were born. JoAnn preceded Vernon in death in October of 2017.

Vernon worked as a refrigeration engineer for Dress Pork which then became Armour and finally John Morrell until the plant closed. Vernon then began to work at the Ultra No Touch Carwash on Gordon Drive and continued to work there until his passing. He had a very kind and giving soul. No one was a stranger to him. He always had a kind word or joke for everyone. He had a great love for all of his trees in his yard, the birds and all the stray animals that would come and visit. He fed them all faithfully every day, making sure none of them went hungry. He enjoyed restoring old cars, digging and repairing wells, and enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was lovingly known as Jug and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vernon was also a member of the VFW in South Sioux City, NE.

Survivors include his children: Pat (Nanette) Linsley of Ponca, NE, Rick Dahl of Jackson, NE, Sandy (Brad) Murphy of Yankton, SD, and Tom Dahl of South Sioux City, NE; grandchildren: Candace Linsley, Shantelle (Troy) Pelchat, Chad Dahl, Bobbi Jo (Shane) Stapleton, Kari (Dave) Burrell, Ricky Dahl, Blake Eddie, Cameron (Marcus) Claussen, Brant Eddie, Tomi Jo Dahl (Jon Moss), Karlie Dahl (Mike Zytniowski), Chase Dahl, and Kaden Dahl; numerous great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister Jana Mock of Arizona; a special friend Thelma Timmins, and his beloved dog, Darby.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law Stephanie Dahl, granddaughter Cara Eddie, three brothers, and two sisters.
