THE LORD GENTLY WRAPPED HIS ARMS AROUND ME THAT MORNING AND TOOK ME HOME. THINK OF ME THERE AND KNOW THAT I AM AT PEACE. MISS ME......BUT LET ME GO.

Darrell Allred, 74, lifelong resident of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 19, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina after a period of declining health.

At Darrell's request cremation has taken place and there will be no services. He wished to have his cremains mixed with the accumulated cremains of his beloved canine family: Lucy, Katee, Jillee, Kodee, Bella, and Vino and scattered in some of his favorite places: in and around his grapevines at home, placed in the marsh in a biodegradable Himalayan salt urn at Pawley's Island, South Carolina and released in a fly-over by his two sons at the grass airstrip in Mount Gilead, North Carolina.

He was a lifelong member of Holly Mount Baptist Church and a memorial marker has been placed beside his parents, sisters, aunt, maternal grandparents, and the memorial marker for his maternal great grandfather who was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War.

You may be gone, no longer living on this earth, but you will live on forever in the hearts and memories of your family. Darrell leaves behind his wife Priscilla (Thompson) Allred (married 4 Sep 1981); two sons, Derek Scott Allred of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Adrian Sean Allred and his wife, Rachel Marie (Lujan) Allred of Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and the grandchildren he adored: only granddaughter, Abbigail Renea Allred, and two grandsons, Nicholas Joseph Booth and Gavin Sean Allred.

Darrell began his fifty-six year career with McRae Footwear located in the small community of Wadeville, North Carolina on June 9, 1964 and was a dedicated employee until his death. McRae was founded in 1959 as a manufacturer of children's footwear but transitioned in 1967 into a manufacturer for the U S Department of Defense for military footwear which continues to the present.

He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Blackmer Lodge #127 A.F. & A.M. since 1974. He was honored to hold the following offices: Junior Warden in 1979, Senior Warden in 1980, and Past Master in 1981.

Darrell had a lifelong passion for aviation. He was a licensed private pilot (soloed on 8 April 1984 in his 1966 Cessna 150G) and owned several single engine airplanes during his flying years. He visited many local air shows and fly-ins, attended three annual air races in Reno, Nevada and three annual air shows at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was a regular at the Stanly County Airport, past president of the Stanly County Pilots Association and a long time member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

His many interests and talents included his airplanes, cooking/grilling, fishing, camping, gardening, photography, poetry, and traveling. He was also a self-taught artist and enjoyed sketching. Darrell had a love of music, particularly gospel, easy listening and classical; and loved to sing. Among one of his favorite songs was "My Way" performed by Frank Sinatra:

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friends, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each chartered course
Each careful step along the byway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way

I've loved, laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh no, no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say all the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows, I took the blows
But I did it my way
