TROY - Sonny Ann Berghela, 12 days old, gained her wings on October 3, 2013 while in the loving arms of her parents, Terra Van Dervoort and Christopher Berghela. Sonny's story of strength touched so many as she fought to prove that regardless of her Trisomy 18 diagnosis, there was so much more that defined her. A symbol of hope, Sonny had her own personal army, Team Sonny Ann, that prayed for her daily. As a result, Sonny graced us with her beautiful presence for 12 blissful days. Everyone that was blessed to know her instantly fell in love as she was a true miracle. Sonny brought so many people together, she was a tiny example of the power of love and prayer. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her big brother, Christopher Berghela; grandparents, Mark and Deborah Van Dervoort and Thomas and Kathleen Berghela; great- grandparents, Kermit and Ann Rock; aunts and uncles, Jason and Nicole Van Dervoort, Joseph and Tina Resciniti and Thomas and Mary Berghela; cousins, Morgan and Devin VanDervoort, Michael Gabriel, Vincenza and Giannina Resciniti and Mason Berghela; and other relatives. In honor of sweet Sonny, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, Oakwood Ave., Troy. A balloon launch will take place after the ceremony. It is requested that only bright colors or Team Sonny shirts be worn as a symbol of Sonny's beautiful journey. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to go to The Team Sonny Fund at Capital Communications Federal Credit Union or online at gofundme.com/419uac. All proceeds will benefit a Trisomy family in need as well as the Palliative Care Program, Journeys, at Albany Medical Center.
