Margaret Frances Thompson was the daughter of Joseph Grant Thompson and Sarah Cronley ("Sadie") Davis and the namesake of her maternal grandmother, Margaret Frances (Myers) Davis, who was called Fannie.

As a toddler, young Margaret made her first census appearance on the 1900 Census in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, where she lived with her parents, Joseph G. and Sadie (Davis) Thompson, in the household of her maternal grandmother, Margurite [sic-Margaret] Davis. On the transcription of this census, granddaughter Margurite [sic-Margaret] Thompson, born November 1897, Kentucky, was shown erroneously as age 21; on the original document, however, she was clearly shown as age 2.

On both the 1910 and the 1920 Censuses, Lexington, Margaret Frances Thompson was shown in the household of her parents where she resided with her younger brother and only sibling, Joseph Spence ("Joe") Thompson, who was five years her junior.

Margaret married Julian Tarr Adair, son of Franklin ("Frank") Hall Adair and Jemima ("Jimmie") Alice Tarr, on December 3, 1926, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky [licensed in Fayette County, Kentucky]; they were married until his death on October 6, 1959. The couple had no children.

On both the 1930 and 1940 Censuses, Lexington, Margaret T. Adair appeared with her husband, Julian Adair.
