The 1830 census shows a Matthew Parson living in Knox county, Indiana -- this appears to be the Mathias Parson, Jr. family. Mathias Parson, Jr. married his second wife, Jemima Henderson, on December 29, 1833 in Fountain county, Indiana. Jemima was born in 1803 in Indiana. She was married to Rueben Penwell on August 26, 1824 in Fayette county, Indiana. It is said that Rueben left Jemima and never returned. Mathias (Jr.) and Jemima were living in Cain township, Fountain county, Indiana during the 1840 census. By the 1850 census, they were living in Utica township, Winnebago county, Wisconsin. They were continuing to live there during the 1860 census. The 1865 Minnesota state census shows them living in Hale township, McLeod county, Minnesota. The 1870 Federal census and 1875 Minnesota state census shows them living in Hale township, McLeod county, Minnesota. Mathias Parson, Jr. was a farmer. He and Jemima had five children - Jacob H., Martha (Mrs. Joseph Duff Mulligan), George, Esther (Mrs. Andrew C. Taylor) and Miranda. The first two children were born in Indiana, the middle child was born in either Indiana or Illinois, the fourth child was born in Illinois and the fifth child was born in Wisconsin.

Per contributor M. Moody: It's highly unlikely that this Mathias Parsons was in Knox County, Indiana in the 1830 census under the name Matthew. He purchased 160 acres in Fountain County, Indiana in 1826 and lived on the property. By 1833, his first wife died and he remarried Jemima Henderson Penwell in Fountain County, Indiana on December 28, 1833. It's highly unlikely that he would have left Fountain, between 1826 and 1833 if he owned 160 acres of land, and still be there in Fountain County, Indiana in the 1840 census. Just food for thought, as your sketches are sometimes taken as fact.
