John Kimmey Locke, 76, of Panama City, passed away on September 24, 2020 at his home in Panama City after a long struggle with cancer. John was born in Kingsville, TX on January 6, 1944 to Jack T. Locke and Elizabeth Hutchison Locke. He was a long time resident of this area and graduated from Bay High School in 1962. John’s early interest in anything mechanical lead to a career as an auto mechanic and owning his own business Locke Automotive. He later went into building construction and became a General Contractor building homes in several areas of Bay County. His last career was as a Building Inspector. He took pleasure and pride in his work insuring the job was done correctly. He enjoyed Bluegrass Music and played several instruments. Later years John had a “Fun” Shop where he built race cars and his many friends stopped in for a visit. He enjoyed drag racing his Camaro “Stumpy”. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kay Locke Smith; stepmother, Dorothy Locke; and grandson, Sebastian Locke. He is survived by his Aunt, Ann Hutchison Pigman; wife and high school sweetheart, Lila Hinson Locke; daughter, Mary Kathryn San Juan (Edward); son, John David Locke (Elaine); stepson, Kevin Schneider; and brother-in-law, Bodsford Smith Jr. He was a loving Pop Pop to grandchildren, Eddie San Juan, Lydia San Juan, Mario San Juan and Michael Locke. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 10 am in the Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. John Blount officiating. For protection of family and friends please wear a mask. Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice or to St. Andrew United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2001 W. 11th Street, Panama City, FL 32401.
