Mrs. Keefe dedicated much of her life to civic, charitable and political causes. She helped to found both Cincinnati's Citizens Committee on Youth and Youth Employment Services in the 1960's. She served for 32 years as a board member/advisor for Teen Response, an organization created to serve at-risk youth in the Cincinnati area. She dedicated twenty years of service to the Friends of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, serving as president from 1988-1992. She served as a member of the board for the Hyde Park Center for Older Adults. She was a founding member of The Wellness Community of Greater Cincinnati.
Over the years, her hard work has been acknowledged by multiple organizations. She was a 1974 recipient of the Cincinnati Enquirer's "Women of the Year" award. She was honored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews in 1993. In 1995, she was honored by the Ohio House of Representatives and won the Cincinnati Post's "Corbett Award." She received the "Woman of Distinction" award in 1997 from the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council.
Born July 17, 1924, Mrs. Keefe was the daughter of Ruth and William Castellini and the granddaughter of Cincinnati business leader, J.J. Castellini. Mrs. Keefe attended St. Mary elementary and high school in Hyde Park.
She graduated in 1946 with "high honors" from the University of Cincinnati, where she was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority. After her graduation from UC, she stayed involved with alumni affairs and sports. She helped to create Ten Plus, the first women’s' athletic support group for the University of Cincinnati. She also was founder and board officer of UCATS, the alumni support organization for athletic programs there. For her service to the university, UC bestowed upon her its Distinguished Alumni Award.
Mrs. Keefe married John W. Keefe in 1947. That is when her political "career" commenced. While raising six children, she "chaired" many political campaigns in Cincinnati and Hamilton County. She not only ran her husband's judicial campaigns, but she was an activist for many candidates.
In addition to her son, John, survivors include sons Thomas (Debbie) Keefe, Daniel (Sally) Keefe, Kevin (Anne) Keefe and daughters Ruth (Fred) Wahl and Lelia (Mac) Kramer . Mrs. Keefe was the grandmother to seventeen and the great grandmother to eleven. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mona Castellini Poynter and brother William Castellini
