Jean Arthur's first husband was Julian Ancker (married Aug 1928). Most records have his occupation as a photographer. He and Jean Arthur (Gladys Georgianna Greene) eloped to Santa Barbara, but the marriage was quickly annulled.
The reasons for the annulment are uncertain. Some said it was because she discovered that her studio contract forbade marriage and he sued for annulment when she failed to consummate the marriage. Jean maintained that she simply realized immediately that she had made a mistake. Also, according to Jean, both sets of parents opposed the union. Annulment officially recorded in December 1928.

He is actually in the 1930 CA census twice. Both times as 28 years old and divorced in California. Once as a lodger with 27 year old Florence A Dudley (actress) on La Brea Ave. and again with his parents, sister, and niece on North Laurel Ave. Occupation given as producer in the oil industry in the former and as a photographer in the movie industry in the latter. His 1932 obituary names his wife as Florence Dudley Ancker.

From a New York Times interview with Jean Arthur:

But Jean did manage to get married — twice. The first marriage, while she was still a teen-age starlet in silent films, was to Julian Anker, a nice Jewish boy in a day when most WASPs — Jean's folks, for example — never imagined there was such a thing. “Julian looked a lot like Abraham Lincoln, and that's probably why I fell in love with him. One day, we were out driving and he suddenly said, ‘Hey, why don't we get married?’ So we lied about our ages and got married in a sheriff's office. You should have heard our families’ reactions — all sorts of screaming and shouting and carrying on about suicide. Well, neither Julian nor I had enough income to make it possible for us to live together, so our marriage lasted one day.

“Julian dreamed of becoming a millionaire. He had a lot of good ideas, and I have a feeling he would have become a millionaire one day. But shortly after our marriage was annulled, Julian died. He was out fishing, and he had a sunstroke.”
