Friedrich Heinrich Bernhard Mundt is born in Biendorf, Mecklenburg, Germany, the son of Christopher and Wilhelmina Selk Mundt. He emigrates in about 1882 and settles in Iowa. On March 12, 1893, in Fayette Iowa, he marries Wilhelmine Josephine "Minnie" Lembke. They have five children together: John William Mundt b. 1893, Mathilda Marie Hanna Mundt b. 1895, Roy Johan Hans Mundt b. 1897, Valeska Martha Dorothea Mundt b. 1900, and Elmer Robert Mundt Weber b. 1904. (This last child takes on Weber as his last name, adopting the surname of his stepfather) All these children are born in Iowa, however, before 1910, the family moves to South Dakota, and by 1912, Fred Mundt and his wife Minnie divorce.
Minnie remarries in 1912 to George Weber.
Fred remarries in 1924 to Edna Lola Walling Dwyer, who has also divorced from her first spouse, John Patrick Dwyer.
Fred and his second wife, Edna, live in Dupree for the twelve years of their marriage. Fred Mundt dies in 1936 at age 66.
