Drew Schillinger Wommack, Jr., 90, “Bud” to his family and friends, passed away Oct. 11, 2014, at Palestine Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Palestine, Texas to Fannie Campbell Wommack and Drew S. Wommack. He was the grandson of the late Governor Thomas Mitchell Campbell. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1941 and attended Schreiner Institute and Lafayette College before being drafted into the military.

During World War II he served in the 66th Black Panther Infantry Division attached to the 12th Armored Group in France and Germany. After the war, he returned to Texas and entered the University of Texas, earning his degree in 1949. After graduating, he joined his father in the family owned bank in Frost, Texas. On Oct. 18, 1952, he married his childhood sweetheart Dixie Marie McDonnell, and they continued to live in Frost. In 1954, with the opening of the new Memorial Hospital across the street from the family home in Palestine, he and Dixie returned to Palestine to open Wommack’s Greenhouse, which he continued to operate until 2006. He was a former member of Rotary Club and the Palestine Fishing Club.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie, his parents, and his brother Thomas Campbell Wommack.

He is survived by his daughter Ann McDonnell Wommack of Palestine; son, Drew Schillinger Wommack III and wife Amy of Dallas; grandchildren McKay Elizabeth Wommack and William Campbell Wommack of Dallas. He is also survived by his brother Mitchell Campbell Wommack of Corpus Christi and first cousin William Bruner Campbell of Austin as well as his nieces, and their children, and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 14. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, with burial to follow at the New Addition Cemetery. The Rev. Doug Blanton will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be William Wommack, Barrett Broyles, Dick Williams, Tom Daniel, Jay Herrington, and Mark Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mitchell Wommack and Bill Campbell.
