Kat Cayce, 92, died on March 20, 2012 at her home in Virginia Beach. Kat was an inspiration to her family and friends. She excelled at golf and loved sharing Virginia Beach's sun, sand and waves with family and friends, but her greatest gift was her amazing ability to soothe ruffled feathers with a humorous comment—comments which could turn heated debates into laughter at the situation and ourselves. Kat was the heartbeat of our family, gently guiding us on a sure course with quiet dignity. She was a master at saying the right thing at the right time, offering a perspective which was wise and true. Small in stature but a giant of strength, Kat Cayce warmed our hearts, elevated our souls, and her winning smile and sparkling laughter will be a legacy which will continue to comfort us.
Kat was predeceased by her parents, Fuller Cleveland Bane and Theo Brandt Bane, siblings, Dorothy Schaafsma, Elizabeth "Betty" Giltz, and Marion "Beanie" Bane. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years and high school sweetheart, Edgar Evans Cayce, her children, Gail C. Schwartzer (and husband Joe), E. Evans Cayce, (and his wife Valerie), three grandsons, John Schwartzer, Chris Natsuume and Ed Cayce and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Kat's life will be held Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 31st and Pacific, Virginia Beach, Virginia in the chapel. In honor of Kat's memory, we would ask that you spread kindness and joy as did she.
