Aleda Mae Hubbell, devoted lifelong member of the Church of Christ, passed away peacefully from this earth at the age of 88 in Vancouver, WA.
Born in Elmer, OK, she was the fourth of six children to the late E.B. "Burt" and Mattie Mae (Phelps) Richardson. She was raised in west Texas on a cotton farm and attended nursing school at Texas Tech University before moving to Vancouver in 1952, where she met and married Ellsworth H. "Bill" Hubbell, March 11, 1960, after a six week courtship. They moved to Portland, OR and returned to Vancouver in 1971.
Aleda Mae worked as a nurse for several years in both Portland and Vancouver. She was a talented cook, seamstress, quilter, and in her later years crocheted well over 3000 kitchen towels which were sent to needy people and children's homes all over the world.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, E.W. "Bill" Hubbell, still at home; sister, Jean Abbe of Morton, TX; daughters, Bennye Maye Wright of Vancouver, Sharon (Steve) Cyphers of The Dalles, OR, Beverly Bassett of Los Angeles, CA; son, Larry Hubbell of The Dalles, OR; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evergreen Memorial Gardens is in charge of arrangements with viewing Saturday, August 26, 2006, 5:00-9:00pm and memorial services Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 12:30pm (no reception.) Interment immediately following at Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House, Vancouver, WA or New Mexico Children's Home, Portales, NM.
