(Grace Atwater) Grecilda Nuñeza Atwater, 77, of Anderson, SC passed away on September 10, due to complications of lung cancer.

Grace was the daughter of the late Calixto Prosia Nuñeza and the late Lucia Densing Beduya. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Raul, Manuel, Cesar and Hermilo, and her first husband Antarawi Musa. She was also preceded in death by Madison Grace Beggs, her sole grand daughter, as well as Lori Landreth, her step daughter.

She is survived by her second husband Norman E. Atwater, daughters Mae N. Beggs, Maria N. Salvatico with husband Chris and son Vincent N. Musa and 2 grandchildren Richie and Avram. She is also survived by her stepchildren, step son Scott and wife Patty and step daughter Lynette and husband Larry. Grace is also survived by four siblings; 3 sisters Adela, Pacita and Gloria, her brother Calixto Jr., her brothers in-law, Donald Atwater and Louis Jayne and countless nieces and nephews.

After graduating from the University of the Visayas, Philippines, she taught elementary education in the islands for a few years gradually moving into the Departmental Office of Education in the main island of Cebu.

She immigrated to the US along with her family in 1980 and became a US citizen. She worked in the hospital and pharmaceutical manufacturing as Quality Control while living in NJ. Eventually Grace and her husband retired in 2000 and followed her son to Anderson, SC where they have lived for the last 20 years.

Grace enjoyed gardening and landscaping in two continents. She was a dual citizen so she was a frequent flyer. She also had a flare for managing projects, enjoying the process that led to building and renovating homes and planting crops on her land. Grace also enjoyed sports, given the chance she would tire her arm pulling the slot machines until she ran out of quarters and it was time for the complimentary lunch.

Speaking of lunch, Grace was always a gracious host and a natural cook...her lumpia was always a hit among other foods on the banquet. Her claim to fame is teaching her second husband to cook other food besides a microwaved hot dog and spinach.

A funeral service will be held in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 2:00pm. Fr. Robert Higgins will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. Social distancing is to be observed and face masks are required at all events.
