Ida O. Poteet was born February 4, 1868, in Shelby County, Illinois, daughter of Isaac Poteet and Isabella Elizabeth Valentine. She was also the granddaughter of Levi B. and Lydia Smith Valentine. On August 31, 1886, in Shelby County, she married Samuel Craig Kimmel, son of Louis and Mary Anne Harshey Kimmel. They were the parents of 6 children: Flora Belle, Lulu May, Roy Samuel, Sadie Ellen, Clarence Elmer and Letha Kimmel. Ida passed away March 24, 1950, in Shelby County, and was buried in Robinson Creek Cemetery, Shelby County, Illinois.
