Alvie was the second of seven children of Levi and Margaret Hake. Shortly after his birth in September 1878 the family left Jefferson County, Wisconsin and began moving West eventually settling in the small town of Edison in Skagit County, Washington.

On February 8, 1912 Alvin married Lyda Blanche Worline in Edison. Blanche was a native of Joplin, Missouri and the daughter of Jerome and Rebecca (Cline) Worline.

On his 1917-18 Draft Registration card, Alvie was a truck driver for the "Velvet Ice Cream Co." In the census records he is a Teamster in 1920 and farmer in 1930. In his 1941 WWII draft registration he is a 63 year old self-employed dairy farmer in Kent, Washington. In both draft registrations he consistently spells his middle name Elmar even though it's Elmer in the Family Bible, where family births, deaths, and marriages were recorded, presumably, by his mother.

Alvie and Blanche had six children:

1 Abraham "Earl" (1 Marie Frances Williams, 2 Georgia Brown)
2 Dave (1 Catherine Bell, 2 Grace Ann George)
3 Gladys May (1 Walter Gilmore, 2 Forrest Cardinal, 3 Owen Jones, 4 Bill Christiansen)
4 Levi Jerome (died age 7)
5 Kenneth Raymond (Pauline Dickey)
6 Fred Lee (1 Wanda Earl, 2 Sherry Lee Dreher)

Alvie died in 1944 and on June 2, 1945 his widow Blanche married Harald C. Stevens whose first wife Marie had died in 1941. Blanche died on August 12, 1975 and Harald died three days later. Both were 83 years old when they died.
