Funeral services for Fred E. Andersen, a Baptist Memorial Home resident in Harlan, Iowa will be held at 2 p.m. today Wednesday at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Shelby county.

Fred, 83, died Sunday at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

He was married on February 12, 1937 to Ruby Holman.

He is survived by one sister, Anna (Louis) Boldt of Irwin, Iowa; a nephew, Charles Hayes of Portsmouth, Iowa and other nieces and nephews.

Frederick Ehlert Andersen, son of Anton and Elizabeth Johanna Boettger Andersen, was born March 14, 1899 on a farm in Lincoln twp., Shelby Co. He attended the country school in Lincoln twp., and grew to adulthood helping on the family farm.


On Feb. 12, 1937, he married Ruby Isadore Holman in Leon. After their marriage, they made their home with his mother, Elizabeth, and helped farm the family farm. He was also engaged in house moving for many years. After Ruby died on Dec, 1, 1955, he continued to live with his mother until she died in 1960. He then made his home with his nephew, Charles Hayes, for several years until retiring and moving to the Senior Citizen's Home in Portsmouth in 1975.


On March 7, 1978, he became a resident of the Baptist Memorial Home in Harlan, This has been his home since that time. He died at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan on Sunday, March 14, 1982, his 83rd birthday.


In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Lewis Andersen and one sister, Louise. He is survived by one sister, Anna (Mrs. Louis) Boldt of Irwin; his nephew Charles Hayes of Portsmouth; other nephews, nieces and relatives.


Funeral services were held at Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan on Wednesday, March 17, 1982 with Pastor Kenneth P Alpers of the Immanuel Lutheran church in Harlan officiating.


Burial was in the Lincoln twp. cemetery, Shelby co., with Olin Pash, Harold Havik, Verl Arentson, Gary Gardner, Marvin Kenkel and Gene Arentson serving as casketbearers.
