Selma - Robert “Bob” Earl Abbott, age 92, died Sunday morning, October 4, 2020 in the SECU Hospice House. Born May 20, 1928 in Johnston County to the late Barney and Lucy Evans Abbott, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 2 sisters, his loving wife of 70 years, Eleanor Pearce Abbott, and daughter Carolyn Stearns. Bob worked at Sadisco in Clayton for 32 years after working at Griggs in Selma for 13 years. He was a longtime member of the Selma Tabernacle Church of God in Selma. He enjoyed reading the Bible and took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 11:00am-12:00pm at Parrish Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by daughter, Dianne Abbott Thorne and husband Jimmy of Smithfield; son-in-law Donald Stearns of Smithfield; sister, Esther Abbott Anderson and husband Donald Ray of Zebulon; brother Clarence Abbott of Tarboro; four grandchildren, Daniel (Valerie) Stearns, Laura (Colin) Dale, Kelly (Michael) Murphy and Jamie (Brandon) Johnson and eleven great-grandchildren.
