She was born on July 21, 1953, to Gordon L. and Barbara Lois (Schonard) Smith in Minneapolis. She was born premature and was proud she'd made national news as the youngest baby at the time to have survived.
She attended school in Minnesota, Wichita and Norfolk, Neb., then worked as a nurse's aide and medication aide at the Masonic Lodge in Wichita and for several years at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She had lived in Lakin for the past 16 years. She enjoyed needlepoint and counted cross-stitch.
Survivors include a son, Matt Sharp, Lakin; one sister, Barb Smith, Lakin; and a brother, Mike Smith, Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bob Willett; and one sister, Pat Fontenot.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin with the Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial is in Lakin Cemetery.
