He was a active volunteer at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center and a board member of Christ United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Parker Pierce, daughter Celeste Pierce Carty, her husband Owen Carty and their two girls Katherine and Marci. His son Vernon Pierce and his wife Sherry and their two children Hugh III and Karen. His youngest son James Parker Pierce his wife Barbara Brown and their two children Sadie and J.P.
