Elizabeth Eggleston was escorted out of Vicksburg by Union soldiers on November 22, 1864, being accused of being a "general busybody with Rebel interests, Rebel Philanthropist, mail receiver, carrier of smuggled funds to prisoners in jail, etc." She was escorted outside the city limits of Vicksburg and left to fend for herself and ordered not to return to Vicksburg.
