H.R. "Abe" Able passed away peacefully, while surrounded by family at his home, Thursday, September 13, 2007. Abe was born in Heth, Arkansas on June 7, 1920. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shigeko, a son, Rich, and three grandsons, Quentin, Kyle, and Richie. Abe was a 32-year Marine and Army veteran, and served proudly during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a member of the 1st of the 5th Marines during the 1st landing at Guadalcanal on Aug. 7, 1942, and remained in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. He returned to active service with the Army when the Korean War erupted, and served with the 2nd Infantry from 1950 to 1952. He continued his military career with the Army, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam until his retirement in 1973. He was an honest and humble man, who never brought the war home, and was filled with kindness and compassion for the underprivileged and people in need. Abe was an avid golfer, fisherman, and card shark. He was also an accomplished dancer and a fine barbeque chef. He loved traveling with his wife and playing golf with his grandsons. The family would like to thank his wonderful physician, Dr. Craig Romney, and the kind Hospice Staff (Nurse Betty) at Multicare. Abe will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
