He retired from NASA after 35 years of service. He was one of the first 300 hired at the Marshall Space Flight Center. He worked on the first Saturn V rocket and all other space programs. His most important job was being a daddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emmet Durham and Annie Bolton Durham; his wife, Martha Louise Durham; his sister, Weba Alberta Pope; his father and mother-in-law, Joseph Earl Buttram and Flonnie Gertrude Buttram; and nephew Danny Ray Pope.
He is survived by three daughters, Martha Susan Durham of Athens, Nancy Carol Daniel and husband Benny of Arab, Linda Kaye Durham Gooch and husband Michael of Athens; one sister, Betty Catherine Cummings of Muscle Shoals; one brother, John Herbert Durham of Cherokee; two grandchildren, Regina Carol Geckles and husband Eric, Stacey Michelle Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, James Eric Geckles, and John Robert Geckles.
