Bereniece C. Achterberg, 91, of Kansas City, KS, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Bethany Medical Center. Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Porter Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call 6- 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Shepherd's Center, 1800 Washington Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66102.
Bereniece was born January 26, 1909, in Kansas City, KS, and was a lifetime area resident. She had been a cashier and saleslady for the Baker Shoe Company for 47 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the Shepherd's Center, various senior citizen's club's and had been a volunteer at Bethany Medical Center for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Achterberg in 1974, and a son, Charles H. Achterberg in 1966. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Vernon, Kansas City, KS; son, D. Michael Achterberg, Lee's Summit, MO; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Achterberg, Columbus, IN; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grand-children. (Arrangements: Porter Funeral Home)
