Harry Hasso was born Karl Hartnagel on July 24, 1904 in Frankenthal, Germany. He was a Swedish actor, cinematographer and film director.

Hasso worked in Sweden, Germany, Italy, and for a short time in Finland as a cameraman and film director. He also wrote some of the music and manuscripts for some of the films he made. Occasionally, he was an actor in some of his films. As a young boy, Hasso learned to play the violin and he also played the harmonica. He started his career in Luxembourg when he was 16 years old. He started his own film company at age 18, and made many movies. His films include House of Silence (1933), Tänk, om jag gifter mig med prästen (1941), Border Post 58 (1951), and Maria Johanna (1953). He also made at least 100 documentary films. Some of his films were about Frankenthal, Germany. All the documentaries he made have been missing since World War II.

Hasso married Zoe Walewskaja (m. 19??; div. 1933); the Swedish actress Signe Larsson Hasso ​(m. 1933; div. 1941)​; the Swedish film actress Viveca Lindfors (m. 1941; div. 1943); Giesela Hartnagel ​(m. 1947; div. 1953)​. His fifth and last wife was the Swedish actress Britta Hasso, who later after their marriage, became a journalist in Helsingborg at the newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad. They married in 1961 and remained married until his death in 1984. Hasso has five children. Harry’s son (Henry) from his second marriage, died in an auto accident in January 1957.
