He graduated from Austintown Fitch High School, Youngstown Ohio in 1966. In 1970 he graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina.

Lawrence Melvin Alkema, Larry to all, was tragically killed Sunday morning when his truck was hit from behind on I-95 near Hobe Sound. He is survived by a brother, Donald (Judy); sister, Archa; daughter, Keri (Chris); son, Lawrence, Jr., "Bubba;" his beloved wife, Marcia; step-daughter, Catie (Rob); grandson, Dominic; granddaughter, Jasmine, and great-granddaughter, Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Erin, and step-son, Bert. Larry spent most of his life in the Palm Beach Gardens area and most recently had retired from a successful insurance practice. He and Marcia were relocating to Apopka to spend their retirement years near their grandson. A reception will be held on Thursday, June 9th from 4 - 6 pm at First Presbyterian Church of North Palm Beach, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, North Palm Beach where he was actively involved for many years. Larry was a vibrant 68 and will be sorely missed.
