Marta Herminia Batista, 73 of Bremerton, died at Harrison Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. She was born on June 3, 1932 in Sagua La Grande, Cuba to Marta (Diaz) & Mario Machado. Marta married Abelardo C. Batista on December 29, 1959 in La Habana, Cuba.

Marta graduated from high school in La Habana, Cuba in 1951 and from the University of Habana in La Habana, Cuba in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Marta worked as an Accountant for 12 years for the Cuban Telphone Company until moving to the United States. She spent 22 years as a Volunteer Trainer and Associate Volunteer Coordinator at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Marta called, contacted, visited, and sent cards to everyone on every ocassion - sharing love and affection with all she met and knew. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church and a Philanthropist with multiple national and international service groups.

Surviving are her husband Abelardo C. Batista of Bremerton and her son Abelardo M. Batista and his wife Jaimie of Phoenix, Arizona and their 5 year old twin daughters, Madeleine & Amanda who are just like their "Abu."

Funeral service will be at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 2:00 pm with visitation from noon until the service. There will be a Service of Remembrance in Miami, Florida with interment at Dade South Memorial Park in Miami.
