About the oldest citizen in this community passed away in the death of Swante S. Dahl who died September 1, 1917 at the home of his son-in-law, Aaron Erickson. He attained the ripe old age of 95.

He was a native of Sweden born in Westergotland March 7, 1822 and came to America in August 1864. He came directly to Minnesota and settled on a farm at East Union where for nearly thirty years he lived an industrious active life. His wife died in 1885 and eight years later he sold his farm and moved to the Aaron Erickson home where he spent the rest of his remaining days.

Deceased is survived by three sons, namely Charles living at Elboa Lake, August at Canby and John at Taylors Falls and one daughter, Mrs. Aaron Erickson of near Belle Plaine. Thirty four grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren also survive him.

The Funeral was held on September 4th with services at the East Union Church and burial was in the adjoining churchyard. Among those who came for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. August Dahl and son Elmer of Canby, John Dahl and son Walter of Taylors Falls, Ernest hoglund and Harry Hoglund of Minneapolis and Albert J. Erickson of Le Seuer.
