John C. "Butch" Adams, 62, of Bentleyville, died Monday, September 17, 2007 at Washington Hospital.

He was born February 13, 1945 in Charleroi, a son of the late John "Jack" Adams and Gloria "Betty" R. Harida Adams.

He was a 1963 graduate of Bentleyville Ellsworth Area Joint High School, where he played right end on the football team. He also played on the basketball team, which won one W.P.I.A.L. championship.

In 1967 he graduated from California State Teacher's College, where he received his bachelor's degree in mathematics.

Butch began his teaching career in 1967 and taught at Donora High School for two years. In 1969 and for the next 28 years, he taught math at the Bentworth High School.

While at Bentworth, he was the high school girls and boys basketball coach, middle school football coach, former athletic director, yearbook sponsor and driver's education teacher.

He was a member of the Bentworth Education Association, PSEA and NEA.

Butch especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; he looked forward to monthly poker games with family and friends and growing peony flowers.

He also enjoyed the Meadows Racetrack and Casino and coin collecting.

On August 11, 1965 in Washington, he married, Mary Jane Gordon, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Wendy Biagini (William) of Monongahela, Kelly Carson (Steve) of Glen Allen, Virginia, Janie Adams of Bentleyville and Scott Adams (Alexis) of Scenery Hill; four grandchildren, Cole McLaughlin, Jacob Carson, Savannah and Seth Adams; four sisters, Kay Sokoloff (Len) of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, Betty Bellicini (Paul) of Eighty Four, Nancy Carroll (David) of Bentleyville, Sandra L. Adams of Eighty Four, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home, Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville (724-239-2255), where services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2007 with the Rev. J. Andrew Scott, officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bentleyville Public Library, 931 Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314.
