Mary was born in San Jose, California, on August 22, 1927. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Notre Dame High School, and San Jose State University. Her father, Alfred, passed away when she was 12 years old, and Mary helped to support her mother, Mary, during World War II while her older brother, James, was in active service. On May 22, 1949, she married Anthony Lawrence “Larry” Armetta, a veteran of the Pacific front, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in San Jose. Mary retired from the Santa Clara County Department of Revenue in the 1980s. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and travelling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents, Alfred and Mary (Castro) Oswald; her daughter-in-law, Sandra (James); and her brother, James (Patricia).
Together, Mary and Larry raised three sons. In 1991, they moved to Louisville, Colorado. In Louisville, Mary was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church, where she taught religious education. After Larry passed away in 2011, Mary moved to Littleton, where she became a parishioner at Light of the World Catholic Church.
Mary and Larry have nine grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
