Eugene Joseph Klein, 90, of 915 W. First St., Spring Valley, Illinois died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in the Spring Valley Nursing Center.

Mr. Klein was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Camp Grove, Ill., to Fred and Grace (Maubach) Klein. He married Mary Troendly on April 24, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henry.

Mr. Klein was an operating engineer working out of Union Local 649 in Peoria, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Spring Valley, the Spring Valley American Legion and Operating Engineer's Local 649.

He also was a World War II Navy veteran.

Mr. Klein is survived by his wife, Mary of Spring Valley; a son, James (Dale) Klein of San Diego, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Pam (Bob) Ross of Utica, Mrs. Linda (Tom) Shaffer of Lacon, Mrs. Diane (Joe) Ruggerio of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Jayne (Andy) Ruggerio of Ladd; two brothers, Ronald of Henry and Merle (Mary) of Chillicothe; two sisters, Norma Stroup of Henry and Mrs. Darlene (Bud) Downey of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Henry.
