He was born on June 13, 1954, in Hobbs, New Mexico. His parents were Wayne Winton Bayless Jr. and Julie Anding Bayless. As a child, he grew up and traveled the world with his family. He spent quite a bit of time in Venezuela, Algeria, Mexico, Argentina, and Columbia and developed many skills along the way. He later enlisted in the Army and served as a cook, which led to a passion for food and serving others. This was made apparent by his employment at Bear Sterns and the ’21’ Club in New York City where he was a head waiter in the executive board rooms. In 1991 he married Lynnette Noel Mitchell in New York. Lynette passed away on July 20, 2010.
Wayne is survived by his son, Elliot Winton Bayless, and his sisters, Natalie Bayless, Maureen Balleza, and Blanche Sibbald and predeceased by both of his parents.
During his time in Las Cruces, he loved the desert, traveling, and camping. He took every opportunity to spend time in nature with his two beloved dogs, Mishka and Wenqian.
There will be a public viewing for friends and community at Getz Funeral Home on Monday, November 2 from 9am to 10am with a service following immediately after. He will be interned at Masonic Cemetery following the service.
