Elisabeth Furtwängler was the youngest daughter from the marriage of the industrialist Ernst Albert to the politician Katharina von Kardorff-Oheimb.
Her first husband, Hans Ackermann, died in the French campaign. She had four children with him, including the actress Kathrin Ackermann . In 1944 she married the conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler in her second marriage. The two had a child together, the archaeologist Andreas E. Furtwängler. She wrote a book about her marriage to Furtwängler and was the patroness of the Furtwängler family.
