Funeral services for Rev. J. Ralph Magee, 90, resident Bishop of the Chicago area of the Methodist church, were held at the First Methodist church in Evanston.

Bishop Magee had often visited in Olney and churches of the Olney district of the Southern Illinois Conference while serving as bishop.

Bishop Magee, 90, who lived at 1864 Sherman Ave., Evanston, died Saturday in a convalescent home in Morton Grove. He was born in Maquoketa, la., and came to Illinois from Des Moines,
where he was resident bishop for Iowa and South Dakota from 1939 until 1944.

Ordained in the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1904, Bishop Magee served several churches in Iowa and Massachusetts before becoming pastor of the First Methodist Church in Seattle in 1921.

He was made a district superintendent for the Seattle district in 1929, serving three years until he was elected a bishop by the general conference of the church in 1932 and assigned to the St.
Paul area.

He is survived by a son, the Rev. J. Homer Magee, associate secretary of World Service and Finance of the Methodist Church; a daughter, Dorothy; a grandchild; and three great -grandchildren.
