John E. Arvin, 81, 800 Norway Road, Monticello, died Tuesday, March 8, [1983] at Home Hospital, Lafayette. He was born in Taylor Co., KY, July 12, 1901, the son of William & Myrtie Blankenship Arvin. He moved to the Buffalo area 35 years ago where he owned a restaurant, was an employee of the state highway, a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, founder of the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, founder of the Buffalo Conservation Club and a Democrat precinct committeeman in Liberty Township. When he retired, he moved to Monticello. Surviving are 5 children, John L. Arvin, Monticello, Dorothy Cooper and Ilene Davis, both of Indianapolis, Carolyn Coonrod, Buffalo, Phyllis Hankins, Minneapolis, MN; 3 sisters, Ella Hunt and Annie Hunt, both of Campbellsville, and Ruth Pierce, Rockville; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, 2 sons and a brother are deceased. Funeral services were Thursday, at Stewart Funeral Home, Monon with Frank Hicks officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Cemetery.
