Betty Louise Morgan Facemire left this world Sunday (Jan. 11, 2015) for her new and final home, her “Mansion over the Hilltop,” which was one of her favorite songs. Betty was the daughter of the late Harry and Manila Morgan of Fairmont. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Watkins Facemire; her eldest daughter, Margaret Kathleen “Kathy” Wallhagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her brother, Dr. Jack Morgan; and her sister, Wilma Morgan Whitaker. Betty was a very talented musician. Besides teaching music in the public school system, she sang on the Fairmont radio station in the late ’30s and early ’40s, and performed in several plays at Fairmont State College, where she earned her teaching degree. She also was a member of many choral groups over the years, including Fairmont’s Vocal Tapestry. She was a choir director at St. Paul United Methodist Church and gave piano lessons to many young students. She was recently honored at an anniversary meeting of the Gamma Chi Chi/Phi Mu Sorority for her composition of the Gamma’s theme song. She was involved in many civic organizations, including D.A.R., Morning Garden Club, P.E.O., Gamma Chi Chi, a local book club and any Bible Study and women’s group activity at St. Paul that took place. She loved attending the functions of these organizations — the camaraderie, mental challenge, social interaction. She simply loved people! She and Jimmy were part of a dinner group that started out many years ago with six couples. More recently the group consisted of Betty and her good friends Anne Morgan and Jane Tyler. They diligently met once a week at a local restaurant for dinner. Being the people lover she was, Betty was “favorite aunt” to many people. She leaves behind a large family to include her four children’s families: son-in-law, Ed Wallhagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Barbara and Terry Miller of Winterville, North Carolina; son, Jim and Marilyn Facemire of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and son, Jeff and Nancy Facemire of Fairmont; and her 10 grandchildren, Morgan and Michelle Wallhagen of Sunnyvale, California, Sarah and Chris Chapman and Lisa Wallhagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Glenn and Allison Miller of Greenville, North Carolina, Rodney Curry of Charlotte, North Carolina, Stefanie Curry of Houston, Texas, Michael and Carie Facemire of Boston, Massachusetts, Jimmy Facemire of New Martinsville, Andy and Carolyn Facemire of Apex, North Carolina, and Daniel Facemire of Boulder, Colorado. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as two sisters-in-law, Mary Anne Facemire McLellan of Deep Creek, Maryland, and Caroline Morgan of Charlotte, North Carolina. There will be a service of celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday at LIFE United Methodist Church (formerly St. Paul UMC), 1564 Mary Lou Retton Drive, Fairmont. Pastor Larry Buckland will be presiding. There will be an informal reception at the church following the service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
