ROCKTON - Gladys Baxter, 86, of 312 West Warren St., died on Friday in Rockford Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong Rockton resident, she was born on June 18, 1896, in Rockton, the daughter of Nathaniel and Grace Benton Kocher. She married Verner Baxter on Nov. 8, 1917, in Rockford. He died on July 8, 1957.
She was a lifelong member of the Rockton United Methodist Church and was a member of the Gleaners Club of the church. She was a life member and past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 332 of Rockton.
Survivors include one dughter, Rosemary (Mrs. LeVerne) Wilson of Rockton; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Kocher of Rockton; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, one son, two brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Rosman, Uehling, Kinzer Blackhawk Chapel, South Beloit, with the Rev. Darrell English officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. unil time of services on Monday in the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Rockton United Methodist Church.
