Graveside service for Loyal O. Roberts, 78, of Fairview will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 19, 2020 at South Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Fairview Oklahoma. Pastor Travis Schmidt will officiate.

Loyal O. Roberts passed away Nov. 12, 2020 at St. Anthony’s hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a short illness. He was born July 24, 1942 on a farm northwest of Fairview, Oklahoma to Elmer A. Roberts and Julianna nee Penner Roberts. He attended school in Fairview from first through twelfth grade graduating in 1961. He attended the Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview, Oklahoma all of his life and was baptized in 1954 in the Cimarron River. After high school, he moved to Oklahoma City and worked at University of Oklahoma Medical Center as an Inhalation therapist for four years. He married Hazel Ann Kilpatrick on December 31, 1964. Within a couple of years, they returned to his hometown of Fairview. He started working for Waldon, Inc. and remained there for the next thirty-four years as a draftsman and mechanical engineering designer.

Loyal joyfully contributed and worked tirelessly in the construction of the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. He checked the construction design prints for errors and provided quality assurance in construction under the direction of Marvin Neufeld. He was also the church treasurer for nine years.

Loyal’s enthusiasm for designing, building, repairing, and fixing was a recurring theme and topic of conversation as was his joy of aviation, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Loyal was often singing at home to his favorite southern gospel quartet albums. With his love of music and learning, he encouraged his family to pursue musical talents as well as higher education. He was exceedingly proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. His grandchildren were a joyful focus of his later years.

Loyal’s friendliness and encouragement spilled over to others and will be greatly missed.

Loyal is survived by his wife, Hazel Ann, of 55 years, his children Steven and Laura Roberts of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kevin and Jamie Roberts of Dallas, Texas; Susan and Jeff Chesnut of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and his grandchildren William Watson Roberts, Ana Victoria Roberts, Aaron Chesnut, and Julianna Chesnut. He is also survived by his four brothers George and Jeanette Roberts of Bethany, Oklahoma; David Roberts of Fairview, Oklahoma; Ronald Roberts of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Gordon and Lynetta Roberts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Julianna Roberts.
